Regain your hip mobility with The Moballise Physiotherapy Clinic

Hip

The anatomical name of your hip is your acetabulo femoral joint.

It is named for the bones that articulate to form it. Your femur is the long, thick bone of your thigh. Your acetabulum is a socket created by the union of the Ilium, ischium and pubic pelvic bones.

The joint is a ball and socket joint, similar to your shoulder joint. They differ in that the hip joint is one of the most stable joints in your body. It is set deep within the soft tissue of the hip region.

The only palpable part of your hip joint is called your Greater Trochanter. This is the large bony lump that you can feel on the outside of your hip region, at the top of your thigh.
